It's Old Fashioned Week

The 1st November marks the start of the 5th annual Old Fashioned week, an event launched in Paris in 2015 that has now become a global event. 2018's event saw a huge 1,300 bars participating from over 60 countries with an estimated 205,000 Old Fashioned's sold.

According to Old Fashioned week, the Old Fashioned is the most popular cocktail in the Worlds 50 Best Bars and goes a little something like this...

How to make a classic Old Fashioned

Glass: old fashioned / tumbler / rocks glass

40ml spirit.  Choose bourbon or rum, or even rye whiskey / Scotch whisky/cognac

2 dashes of ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters

1 sugar cube

1 sliver of orange zest

1 cocktail cherry.  Choose an authentic maraschino or amarena cherry.

 

Muddle the bitters and sugar with a splash of soda or flat water for 1 minute in the glass.  Add the spirit and fill the glass with ice.  Garnish with the orange zest and cherry.

The sensations of taste should be fruity and aromatic with citrus sweetness, whilst letting the pure, punchy spirit flavours shine through.

Generally, its requisites are that it is a short cocktail, and it should always be garnished.

 

As delicious as the classic Old Fashioned is, we've got a couple of twists up our sleeves using some of our Funkin Pro Syrups.

 

Smokin Old Town

  • 50ml Bourbon
  • 7ml Funkin Pro Smoked Syrup
  • 2 dashes of ANGOSTURA aromatic bitters

Garnish with slightly burnt orange zest and a maraschino cherry

 

The Old Earl

  • 50ml Bourbon
  • 7ml Funkin Earl Grey Syrup
  • 2 dashes ANGOSTURA aromatic bitters

Garnish with a tea leaf, orange zest and a maraschino cherry

 

Hemp Old Fashioned

  • 50ml Bourbon
  • 7ml Funkin Hemp Syrup
  • 2 dashes ANGOSTURA aromatic bitters

Garnish with orange zest and a maraschino cherry

Funkin festive Christmas cocktails

As the on-trades largest drinking occasion of the year, it's no surprise venue's start shouting about Christmas a couple of months before the big day. This year we're jumping on the bandwaggon and have already put together a selection of serves which wouldn't look out of place on any Christmas menu.

We wish you a matcha Christmas

A festive, creamy gin-based cocktail mixing Funkin sour Mix, Rhubarb syrup, pink gin, double cream and soda.

  • 50ml Funkin Sour Mix
  • 20ml Funkin Pro Rhubarb Syrup
  • 50ml Pink Gin
  • 25ml Double Cream
  • Top a drop of soda

Hard shake and pour into a highball. Top with a drop of soda and garnish with a brush of matcha powder and dehydrated raspberry powder.

Boats and ho-ho-ho's

As delicious as your Christmas roast, this cocktail mixes Jamaican Rum, Campari, Lemon and Earl Grey Syrup.

  • 25ml Funkin Pro Lemon
  • 15ml Funkin Pro Earl Grey Syrup
  • 35ml Jamaican Rum
  • 15ml Campari

Build in a gravy boat and garnish with a few Christmas roast classics.

Call me after 8

A Hazelnut liqueur based Christmas delight mixing Funkin Pro Hemp syrup, Creme de Menthe, Double Cream and Milk.

  • 15ml Funkin Pro Hemp Syrup
  • 25ml Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur
  • 25ml Creme de Menthe
  • 25ml Double Cream
  • 25ml Milk

Hard shake and pour into a rocks glass. Garnish with a mint candy cane.

Peachy port on a snowy porch

A beautiful White Port-based cocktail combining Funkin Peach Puree and Hemp syrup, topped with Prosecco.

  • 25ml Funkin Pro Peach Puree
  • 10ml Funkin Pro Hemp Syrup
  • 25ml White Port
  • Top with Prosecco

Build in a flute and garnish with a rosemary sprig.
