Funkin’s spooky Halloween serves

With booze sales rising £86.7m last Halloween (Kantar), making Halloween the second biggest drinking occasion after New Year's Eve, off-trade venue's are looking to capitalise on the growing opportunity. Just because we are nice, we've spent a little time coming up with some spooky looking serves that could add a creepy twist to your cocktail menus.


A sweet vodka-based cocktail made using Funkin Pro Pure Pour Lime, Funkin Coconut puree, Funkin Vanilla syrup and mango vodka.

Pro ingredients

  • 25ml Funkin Pro Lime
  • 50ml Funkin Pro Coconut Puree
  • 15ml Funkin Pro Vanilla Syrup
  • 50ml Absolut Mango Vodka


Shake and strain over cubed ice into a highball. Garnish with spiders, cobwebs and ghostly features.

That's how eye roll
A gruesome Halloween cocktail mixing Funkin Pro Lime, Funkin Pro Rhubarb syrup, Blue Curacao, Gin and egg white.

Pro ingredients

  • 25ml Funkin Pro Lime
  • 15ml Funkin Pro Rhubarb syrup
  • 25ml Blue Curacao
  • 25ml Chase Pink Grapefruit and Pomelo Gin
  • 1 egg white


Dry and wet shake the ingredients into a Nick and Nora glass. Garnish with a lychee pieced with a blueberry and dipped in Funkin Pro Grenadine syrup

Little Clockwork
A simple yet creepy Halloween concoction mixing Gin, Funkin Pro Pure Pour Lemon and Funkin Hemp Syrup.

Pro ingredients

  • 27.5ml Funkin Pure Pour Lemon
  • 12.5ml Funkin Hemp syrup
  • 37.5ml Gin


Wet shake the ingredients and serve over cubed ice in a lowball. Garnish with a brokers bowler hat and a fake eyelash.

Sleeping death
A vibrant green cocktail mixing Funkin Pro Spiced Syrup, 25ml Funkin Pro Green Apple Puree, 25ml Calvados and 25ml Cider.

Pro ingredients

  • 25ml Funkin Green Apple Puree
  • 10ml Funkin Pro Spiced syrup
  • 25ml Calvados
  • 25ml Lyme Bay Traditional Mead
  • 25ml cider


Add all ingredients except the cider to a shaker. Wet shake and strain into a highball. Top with Cider and garnish with an apple fan.

CGA Quarterly Market Growth Monitor Analysis

CGA and Alix Partners have released their quarterly Market Growth Monitor Analysis.  We've summarised the key trends in the industry throughout the country.

  • Licensed premises down 2.4% in 12 months, a decline of 2920 from the 116,880 premises in June 2019. This is the 8th quarter of year-on-year decline.


  • Restaurant closures continue but groups are more resilient. An average of 18 independent restaurants are closing per week. In comparison, restaurant groups are performing slightly better with closures only up 1.2% in the previous 12 months.


  • Net bar and pub closures slower than restaurants despite both being in decline. Whilst restaurant numbers fell 3.4% in the year to June, pub & bar numbers fell only 2%.


  • Net closures are relatively even across the country. Sites are down 2.4%  in the north of England, 2.6% in the south, 2.5% in central England & Wales, and 2% in Scotland.


  • Leased drink-led pubs are down 25% in the last 5 years. The move away from the leased model has coincided with major pub groups switching to directly managed sites. Most leased pubs that have closed are yet to reopen.
